Last week Lars Carlsson, Head of Artificial Intelligence Stena Line Group and Jan Sjöström, Senior Master Stena Scandinavica, came to the Netherlands to give a presentation about the Stena Line AI fuel project. At an event organised by the Dutch Shipowners' Association (KVNR) more than 100 people from across the maritime industry, and other invited stakeholders, got the opportunity to listen to a truly inspiring, interesting and down-to-earth presentation. They heard how a great collaboration between new technology and operational experience, gained from decades as a ship's Captain, has generated very positive energy savings, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions.
Annet Koster, managing director of the KVNR reflected afterwards:
"Listening to how Stena Line uses AI as part of their sustainability work in terms of energy saving was fascinating. The wonderful AI fuel pilot presentation illustrated the progressive and inspirational entrepreneurial spirit of Stena Line, a true ambassador of the maritime sector. It provided a lot of food for thought for other members by showing what AI can do and highlighted that Smart Technology should not to be feared but embraced".
Lars and Jan also met with the Ship Management team on the North Sea, and onboard colleagues from the Hoek ships. It was a very positive and constructive meeting with Lars and Jan sharing information on their experiences. The level of engagement and curiosity was high, and the North Sea team is very much looking forward to the roll out of the AI fuel pilot on their ships next year.
