What does a Cook do?
At Stena Line, no day is like the other and as a cook onboard you will be working in the central galley providing the dishes for one of the restaurants according to the recipe specifications. Every restaurant has its own specific dishes. One week you will be making the meal for the crew, the other week can be for our plate service restaurant or for the truckers. In general, your job consists to ensure the highest standards of quality food production, stock control, ensure wastage is kept to a minimum, and several other key responsibilities.
Working in a team with different backgrounds and nationalities, reporting to the head chef and cooperate working with different departments is part of your challenges on board.

At Stena Line, your personality matters just as much as how good you are at what you do. In our employees we like to see use of initiative, creativity and enthusiasm within all aspects of their position. Your ability to provide a consistently high standard of service is of course important, but so is a passion for the role you will be placed in.
All our employees have the responsibility for our passengers’, and their own safety onboard. As such it is a requirement that you need be in good physical and mental health and being fluent in English is essential. Working onboard does automatically mean you will be trained for all types of safety and crowd management task.
And of course, as a cook working food safe, accordance the HACCP regulations is as a second nature for you.
Good to know
Our ferries depart from Hoek van Holland and Harwich. The work involves varying working hours and could include nightly hours. At Stena Line, we believe it's the little things that make a big difference. That's why as a Cook your personality matters just as much as how good you are at what you do. We're looking for people who will go that extra mile for our customers to make sure their trip is as comfortable and safe as possible.
Education/ experience, the ideal candidate will have:
- An MBO degree with a finished cook’s diploma
- Experience in restaurants is a pre
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office required, including Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Must be able to communicate in Dutch and English, both written and verbal
- Strong at multi-tasking and working in a fast paced environment
- Positive attitude and a team player is a must
- Attention to detail
- Ambition to develop within the company
What do we offer:

- A fixed-term contract for the duration up to 12 months with the prospect of permanent employment;
- A sailing and leave schedule from week on and off;
- You only work 24 weeks a year!
